Martec engineering successfully tendered for the supply and instillation of all the balustrades and secondary steel work for the new Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen.

Located on Guild street and Market street, this development has combined Aberdeen railway station and the new bus station creating a transport hub.

With a total retail space of approx: 700,000 ft² (65,000 m²), accommodation for more that 60 shops, 3 hotels, Cinema complex and up to 12 restaurants, making this the largest retail development in Aberdeen.

Hammerson Plc are one of the top developers of shopping malls in the uk. Union square was seen as the focal point for Hammerson in Scotland. Miller construction had the remit of using the best sub contractors to achieve their goal of building the number one shopping mall in Scotland. Martec were proud to be included as one of the best by Miller construction.

Martec Engineering worked very closely with the design team to achieve a high standard of architectural metalwork within very tight budgets and timescales.

The impressive new entrance to union Square

The new central stair case was designed to blend in without taking away from the look of the grand entrance.

Designed and constructed by Martec a very high specification access stair case which enhances the entrance to the west side of the shopping centre.

The glass balustrade was designed to be simple but stylish, with high quality timber handrails which is reflected thought the shopping mall.

Internal Atrium Space

The design of the internal shopping atrium, was designed to provide the customer with an exciting shopping experience, the design not only catered for the visual experience but also with safety in mind.

Martec Engineering balustrade detail catered for both experiences. The toughened glass combined with the steel gave a new stylish and brighter look making the floor levels within Union Square appear more spacious

Internal Stair Case

The internal stair case was designed to take up as little space as possible but to reflect the general aesthetics of the mall.
Martec fully designed, detailed and installed the new staircase. Finished using 18mm toughened glass with steel tread and timber handrails
