About Us

Founded in 1985 by Martin McHugh a steel fabricator with an entrepreneurial spirit who saw the gap in the market for a specialist metalworker with the capabilities to eliminate the problems associated with composite steel and glass products and structures.

Martec specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke architectural metalwork and glazing systems.

Accreditations

Martec operate a fully integrated Management System meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Accredited by the steel construction certification scheme.

Martec also complies with all Construction Product Regulations for the products we supply, and on the 6th January 2015 became fully accredited by the Steel Construction Certification Scheme Register to EN 1090 – EXC2 for the CE Marking of Structural Steelwork.

Martec are registered Secure by design license holders issued by ACPO Secure by Design

Market Sectors

The business continues to be owned and managed by Martin McHugh a steel fabricator to trade, and this year has secured contracts across all sectors of the construction industry and maintain long standing framework agreements for maintenance and repair contracts with the local authorities and social landlords.

Typical contract values range from £100k to £3m and the company has long established trading relationships with many of the U.K.’s major main contractors and local authorities. All sectors of the construction industry are serviced from our head office and manufacturing facility in Glasgow ideally located adjacent to the M74 linking us with all major road and rail routes to the UK and Europe.

Experience is the Key

We have a highly qualified and loyal management team and workforce, current employee level stands at over 70, a significant proportion of whom have between ten and thirty years’ service with the business.

Our Directors and Managers have the appropriate professional, technical and safety qualifications for their particular roles.

Shop floor and site based operatives receive appropriate NVQ training and hold the requisite skills, plant operation and safety qualifications.

Apprentices

We have an annual intake of Apprentices from local areas, individuals join our shop floor teams whilst attending day release courses to complete their qualification.

Similarly technical modern apprentices join the business to supplement management functions typically starting in the drawing office for a six month period prior to moving to other Departments and building a rounded knowledge of the business.

Service Capabilities

Martec’s fully equipped modern production facility has the following key points to note:

Drawing Office – Utilising Auto-Cad, Solid works and Radan design software linked to modern production facility comprising 5 separate disciplines all in-house ensuring 100% control of all manufacturing processes:

  • Steel Systems Fabrication
  • Secondary steel structural fabrication and assembly bays
  • Stainless steel fabrication machining and polishing bays
  • Mild steel door and window assembly lines
  • PPC and wet finishing booths

Martec has developed a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organisation and every employee has undergone training on this subject. As part of our continuous improvement we have also developed key objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).

As all processes are carried out in-house it ensures we can offer the design and specification you require, together with a fair price and a quality finish delivered on time.

North Lanarkshire Council

Tryst Leisure Centre required new doors for Health and Safety and environmental reasons.

Martec worked in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council architects to assist with the specification and design of the doors, screens and roller shutters.

Martec manufactured and installed each of the components on time and on budget.

North Lanarkshire Council
